Media coverage of startups
I got some great press this week for two startups — Big Green G and VocabSushi. BigGreenG is a company that is seeking to become the standard for green business certification. The company allows businesses to become green one step at a time, and show the public each action they take to protect the environment. Tons of startups want press these days, and this placement took a lot of work and perseverance. But you couldn’t ask for a better story on NY1.
VocabSushi also got some great coverage. The Web site teaches vocabulary by searching news online, and presenting the words in the context of sentences. A very cool site which will continue grow when school starts in the fall. This was an easier placement, just a little rewriting of a press release for my former paper. Check it out here on LoHud.com.
There is no secret to generating coverage. It just comes down to understanding reporters’ needs, casting a wide net and being persistent. If someone says they are booked and call back in a month, you should call back in a month. Sometimes, a little following up can go a long way.
